Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring

What is Luxury Vinyl Flooring?

Luxury vinyl flooring our most popular flooring type even among industry standards. Luxury vinyl flooring is primarily made of PVC (Polyvinyl chloride resins) that is melted down and heated with other synthetic elements such as calcium carbonate, to make for a durable, waterproof flooring. Traditional vinyl flooring is made up of 4 layers.

The first layer that is on the bottom of the plank is the “backing layer”. This layer is what makes the plank waterproof and consists of a finishing layer that prevents the growth of mold and mildew.

The second layer from the bottom is the “vinyl core layer”. This layer makes up the bulk of the plank and is made up of the PVC material mixture. Because the bulk of the plank is made up of this material, it allows for a more flexible plank.

The third layer from the bottom is the “decorative image layer” that is printed on top of the plank to adhere to the PVC material. The layer is the design and color of the plank and are offered in a variety of styles.

The fourth and final layer from the bottom is the “wear layer”. This layer is a clear coating to seal in the decorative image layer and help prevent scratches and everyday wear and tear.

Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring (LVP) versus Luxury Vinyl Tile Flooring (LVT)?

You may ask yourself, what is the difference between LVP flooring and LVT flooring? Is one better than the other? The simple answer to this question is the only real difference is the appearance of the vinyl plank. LVP flooring gives a hardwood appearance while LVT gives a tile or stone appearance. Some individuals often mistake luxury vinyl flooring for actual hardwood and tile flooring!

If properly taken care of, this flooring can last for up to 20 years!

Easy to install due to the clicking vinyl system.

Affordable which makes for great budget projects or rental properties.

For damaged areas due to flooding, the vinyl is able to be easily replaced because it is a floating floor.
